Cerebrospinal fluid cell cannibalism in metastatic breast adenocarcinoma.

چکیده
Female patient with breast tumor, presenting with neurological symptoms; CSF with malignant neoplasms cells (Figure). Any type of neoplasm can spread to the leptomeninges and can be detected in the CSF. Among solid tumors, the dissemination is more frequent with breast, melanomas and lung cancer1,2. The positivity rate of detecting malignant cells in the CSF varies in the literature, usualy is around 24%1,3. Giant tumoral cells sometimes appear in a form suggesting tumor cell cannibalism or endocytogenesis4. Cells of this type are likely to be found after systemic and intrathecal chemotherapy5.

Case report: Metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung with filiform “ciliated” tumor cells in the cerebrospinal fluid
Occurrence of cilia on the cell surface is usually considered evidence of a non-neoplastic process. Rarely, ciliated malignant tumors cells have been reported in pleural and ascitic fluids from ovarian and endometrial adenocarcinomas, though not from the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in association with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. We now present a case report of a patient who initially presented with...
متن کاملA Case of Gastric Adenocarcinoma Presenting as Meningeal Carcinomatosis
Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis occurs in approximately 5% of patients with cancer. The most common cancers involving the leptomeninges are breast, lung cancer and melanoma. However, gastric adenocarcinoma has been rarely reported with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis. The presenting manifestations are usually headache, visual disturbances and seizures. We report a case of leptomeningeal metastasis ...
متن کاملBronchogenic Carcinoma Presenting as Carcinomatous Meningitis
Neoplastic meningitis, also known as carcinomatous meningitis, reflects the metastatic infiltration of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and leptomeninges (pia and arachnoid) by cancer. It is the is the third most common cause of central nervous system (CNS) metastases after brain metastases and epidural spinal cord compression [1]. Leptomeningeal metastasis (LMM) is a devastating complication of m...
متن کاملDetected EGFR mutation in cerebrospinal fluid of lung adenocarcinoma patients with meningeal metastasis
OBJECTIVE To discuss the application of ARMS method to detect EGFR gene mutation in cerebrospinal fluid of lung adenocarcinoma patients with meningeal metastasis. METHODS 5 cases of lung adenocarcinoma were identified with meningeal metastasis that were cleared EGFR gene mutation by gene sequencing method. From each patient 5ml cerebrospinal fluid was obtained by lumbar puncture. ARMS method ...
متن کاملAn unusual metastatic breast cancer presentation Report of a case
ABSTRACTWe are reporting a 43-year-old female breast cancer case with a solitary metastatic adenocarcinoma in clivus. This patient with a stage II (T1N1M0) breast cancer history has been followed for 7 years. Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM) and 6 courses chemotherapy with CMF (Cyclophosphamide, Metotrexate, 5FU) regimen were done for her at the time of diagnosis. Also, she took tamoxifen tw...
